What is a Doula?
Doula is a Greek word referring to an experienced woman helping another woman during childbirth and in the postpartum period. A doula can help make the birth experience enjoyable for both the partner and the mother by helping them both get what they need
physically and emotionally. She is another set of hands and helps relieve some of the pressure on the partner to be the sole comfort provider during labor. A postpartum doula helps create a loving nurturing space for the new mom and her family as well as reintegrating normalcy into their lives.
About Me
I came into the doula profession after years of interest in womens' health care. I started out as a birth doula in order to see birth first hand and to test myself if it was something I could handle in hopes of someday becoming a midwife. My interest was then piqued into postpartum care. I was trained at the Seattle Midwifery School by DONA instructors and after moving across country I finished my certification and became a certified postpartum doula. I love watching families 'get it', learning how to balance their lives and take care of their babies. I enjoy the process of watching moms bond with their newborns. I am now hoping to expand my breastfeeding knowledge and services by soon becoming a lactation counselor. |
